tMG

From http://www.mountain-goats.com/

The new album is called Heretic Pride and will be out on February 19th, 2008. These are the songs on it:

1. Sax Rohmer #1
2. San Bernardino
3. Heretic Pride
4. Autoclave
5. New Zion
6. So Desperate
7. In the Craters on the Moon
8. Lovecraft in Brooklyn
9. Tianchi Lake
10. How to Embrace a Swamp Creature
11. Marduk T-Shirt Men’s Room Incident
12. Sept 15 1983
13. Michael Myers Resplendent

Recording personnel for this album were Franklin Bruno, Annie Clark, Erik Friedlander, Peter Hughes, Jon Wurster, the Bright Mountain Choir, and your humble narrator. It will be released by 4AD, and features artwork by Vaughan Oliver. It was recorded at Prairie Sun, and produced by Scott Solter & John Vanderslice. We are really excited about this album, and we wish it were out right now, but there is a law against releasing albums in December unless you are Queen. Any album you see released in December is actually by Queen, no matter what it says on the cover. Then in January everybody is recovering from having listened to too much Queen. Hence, February. See you then!

This is good, see, because I’m *still* trying to get over The Sunset Tree.

Norman Mailer

“Norman Mailer reflects on turning 80 during an interview in his Brooklyn Heights apartment in this Jan. 28, 2003 file photo, in New York. Mailer, the macho prince of American letters who for decades reigned as the country’s literary conscience and provocateur, died of renal failure early Saturday, his literary executor said. He was 84.” — AP (AP Photo/Kathy Willens)

Finally watched Michael Moore’s SiCKO tonight. It’s his best. Don’t argue with me; it’ll just end in tears. The movie should be on DVD soon. You should buy five copies for your mother.

Ooookay, I hate to call Paul Auster out, but really… The trailer for The Inner Life of Martin Frost gives away a plot twist that makes it look as though Auster’s been lifting RIGHT OUT of this un-classic. Shame. Real shame.

SEATTLE (AP) — Some academics cringe when students turn to Wikipedia as a reference for term papers.University of Washington-Bothell professor Martha Groom has more of an “If you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em” response to the online encyclopedia that anyone can write or edit.Instead of asking students in her environmental history course to turn in one big paper at the end of the semester, she requires them either to write an original Wikipedia article or to do a major edit on an existing one.

‘Bondage Breakers’

The newest addiction recovery group in town is calling itself “Bondage Breakers” — hands-down, the worst name for an addiction recovery group. Assuming it’s not a “specialty” recovery group.

Anyway, we aim to help, so I typed up this more or less correctly spelled, hand-written PSA, and Ms. Smartypants here makes a lovely typo in the process. Instead of calling it a “new addiction recovery group,” I wrote “new addition recovery group.” When you read that aloud, it sounds like “New Edition recovery group.” Now, see, the joke in the area was that it gave the song “Candy Girl” a whole new meaning.

But, really, I think Bobby and Whitney did that a long time ago.

‘The ‘Bots are Back!’

Beginning November 5th, BBI will be launching its very own website at MST3K.com. The site will feature brand-new animated adventures of Crow, Tom Servo and Gypsy. We’re told the goal is to have one new adventure each week (though “some settling may occur with shipping,” they added). The Web site will also feature work from the original series (which BBI is now calling “the legacy series”), behind-the-scenes footage and other material culled from the BBI vault.

A co-worker pointed this MST3K tidbit to me this week. Could be good, eh? EH?!

“Say, folks, have any old dining room chairs in storage that you’re not using right now?”

“No, but there’s a Corvair here.”

Corvair

My dining room is rather spacious…
